Abdominoplasty

Abdominal reduction surgery, known as abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at improving the appearance of the abdomen.

Before undergoing abdominoplasty, consider the following:

  • Consult a plastic surgeon to assess body condition and explain the details of the procedure.
  • Review medical history and current medications.
  • Stop smoking and alcohol consumption.
  • Maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise.

During this surgery, the doctor removes excess skin and fat to tighten the abdominal area. It is performed as follows: this procedure involves a horizontal incision across the lower abdomen, typically from one hip to the other, along with a second incision around the navel. The skin is separated from the abdominal muscles.
The abdominal muscles are pulled together and stitched to give a firm, flatter appearance. The navel is repositioned for a more natural look.
Sterile dressings are placed over the sutures at the end of the procedure.

The recovery time after abdominoplasty depends on the complexity of the surgery and the individual’s fitness. In most cases, patients should rest at home for about one to two weeks and avoid heavy activities. Pain and discomfort may occur after surgery, which can be alleviated with pain relief medications.
