For this procedure, it is necessary to fast for at least 8 hours prior.Cholecystectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder. Treatment Method: It is performed either by laparotomy or laparoscopic surgery. In the laparoscopic method, the surgeon makes four small incisions in the abdomen. A tube with an attached camera is inserted through one of the incisions. Surgical instruments are then inserted through the other incisions, and the surgeon uses the camera image to guide the surgery. X-ray imaging or ultrasound may be used during the procedure to ensure the issue is resolved and to check for other potential problems. In open cholecystectomy, an incision about 6 inches long is made in the upper right part of the abdomen, the gallbladder is removed, and the incision is closed. A small drain is placed inside the abdomen to remove fluids, which is removed before discharge. The discharge of the patient depends on their condition and can range from 6 hours to several days after the surgery. At the time of discharge, the patient should be in good general condition, have stable vital signs, be able to move and eat, and not be experiencing severe pain (requiring narcotics).
