Hemorrhoidectomy

Before the hemorrhoid surgery, the patient should refrain from smoking and alcohol consumption and take medications as advised by the treating physician. Additionally, they should increase their intake of fluids and fiber-rich foods several weeks prior to the surgery. Patients planning to undergo hemorrhoid surgery should avoid eating and drinking for several hours before the procedure, typically between 8 to 12 hours, to ensure that the stomach is empty and to prevent nausea during the operation.

Hemorrhoids are swollen and varicose veins in the anus and lower rectum. They can be internal (inside the rectum) or external (under the skin around the anus).
Symptoms: Constipation, blood in stool, itching, and burning
Treatment Method: The night before surgery, the patient must fast. Hemorrhoidectomy is a single-session surgical procedure to remove hemorrhoids.

The patient is placed under general or local anesthesia. Incisions are made in the tissue surrounding the hemorrhoids.
In severe cases, the patient may need to stay for observation for one day; otherwise, discharge is possible the same day.

Recovery after a hemorrhoidectomy may take four to eight weeks, although you should be able to return to work within one to two weeks. During this time, you should adjust your diet to prevent constipation and avoid activities (such as lifting heavy objects) that could disrupt the surgical incision.
